Kalan Hoskins is the School Counselor at Royal Elementary School. She has a Master’s degree in Counseling and a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work from East Carolina University. She furthered her training and education by becoming a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC) and a National Certified Counselor (NCC). She began working as a school counselor in 2001 and joined Franklin County Schools and Royal Elementary School in 2018.

Mr. Thorp lives with his wife of 29 years and one cat. He has two grown children, a son in Washington, DC and a daughter in Dunn, NC and one 4 year old grandson. Mr. Thorp has worked as an elementary school educator for the past 25 years. He began teaching 8 years in Prince Georges County MD before moving to NC and teaching in Wake County for another 8 years. He has now worked at Royal Elementary in Franklin County for the past 8 years, 6 of them in second grade. He is excited to continue his education career as the Reading Intervention teacher at Royal.

Nurse Young has been practicing nursing since 2013 and began school nursing in the fall of 2018. She received the Nursing Excellence award from Appalachian Regional Healthcare System in 2016. She has been an American Heart Association CPR instructor since 2019 and currently serves as the CPR instructor for Franklin County Schools. In her free time she enjoys spending time outdoors with her husband and three children.

Mrs. Small is originally from Battleboro, NC. She taught in Nash County Public Schools from 2015-2025. She has three fur babies at home, two overweight cats (Simba and Leo), and one rambunctious Staffie, Nova. She has been married to her High School Sweetheart since September 2013. She became a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc in Fall 2023 and prides herself in community involvement. In her free time, Mrs. Small enjoys arts & crafts, traveling, spending time with family/friends, journaling, and just having a good time.

Erin Carter is a Speech Language Pathologist and has practiced for over 23 years. She initially worked with older adults in the long term care setting for 10 years before transitioning to working with children in the school setting. Ms. Carter has worked at Royal Elementary School in Franklin County since February of 2024. She has loved her time at Royal and the students she has served! Ms. Carter is married with 3 children and a Golden Retriever. She enjoys golfing, fishing, swimming and watching football.
